Construction of storm- and flood-resilient houses in Quang Binh begins
In response to the National Week for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control 2022, The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and World Share held a ground-breaking ceremony to build 73 storm- and flood-resilient houses for vulnerable poor and near-poor households that were severely affected by the historic flood and storm in Quang Ninh and Le Thuy district (Quang Binh).
The houses are designed to ensure 03 solids (hard foundation, hard frame, hard roof). The house must have a flood prevention floor that is 1.5m or more higher than the highest flood level from the floor of the house. It is expected that these 73 resilient houses will be completed and handed over to the local poor people by the end of July 2022.
Construction of storm- and flood-resilient houses in Quang Binh begins in Hien Ninh commune, Quang Ninh district
Speaking at the event, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Phan Manh Hung emphasized that the central province of Quang Binh were often heavily affected by natural disasters. In 2020, it suffered the consequences of four historic floods, which caused damage to thousands of households. Noticeably, Quang Ninh and Le Thuy districts are the two most heavily affected localities. Being supported to build storm- and flood-resilient houses will help people feel secure before each rainy season, and stabilize their daily lives.
