Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Quoc Dung, on behalf of the Vietnamese Government, sent the warmest congratulation to Ambassador Dato 'Shariffah Norhana Syed Mustaffa, the Malaysian Government and people on the occasion of the 63rd anniversary of Malaysia’s National Day.

Deputy Minister Nguyen Quoc Dung emphasized that during the past 63 years, Malaysia has obtained admirable achievements. He highly appreciated Malaysia's efforts in the fight against COVID-19 and believes that with strong spirit and determination, the Malaysian Government and people will soon overcome the pandemic and continue to implement prosperous goals with a vision to 2030.

Vietnam and Malaysia officially established diplomatic relations on March 30, 1973. Since then, Vietnam - Malaysia relations have flourished, especially after the two countries advanced to establish a strategic partnership in 2015.

In recent years, Vietnam and Malaysia have effectively cooperated in many fields, contributing to tightening relations between the two countries. Bilateral trade turnover is close to 15 billion USD /year.

According to Deputy Minister Nguyen Quoc Dung, the year 2020 is an important milestone for both countries as Vietnam has assumed the duo role of rotating Chair of ASEAN and a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, meanwhile, Malaysia is the Chair of Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC). The two countries together with other member nations of ASEAN have made efforts to build a united community contributing to peace, stability, and prosperity in the region and the world.

For his part, Malaysian Ambassador to Vietnam Dato 'Shariffah Norhana Syed Mustaffa stressed that Malaysia and Vietnam have a long-standing friendship, with effective cooperations in many fields such as trade, investment, education, security, defense as well as people-to-people diplomatic relations.
