Hanoi-Kuala Lumpur Direct Flight Opens Opportunities to Promote People-to-people Ties

"Direct flights between Hanoi and Kuala Lumpur will create many opportunities for people-to-people relations and strengthen our bilateral relations," said Malaysian Ambassador to Vietnam Tan Yang Thai at a meeting with the President of the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organizations (VUFO) Nguyen Phuong Nga in Hanoi on March 13.

Malaysia has invested in Vietnam since the 1970s and is now the second largest investor in ASEAN to Vietnam. Impressed by Vietnam's economic development in recent years, Malaysian investors and businesses are interested in the Vietnamese market. The Malaysian Ambassador hopes to promote cooperation between the private sector of the two countries, which is an important component of the two countries' people-to-people relations.

Regarding tourism, Malaysia is among the 10 largest Asian tourist markets of Vietnam. With the resumption of direct flights between Hanoi and Kuala Lumpur from February 2023, Ambassador Tan Yang Thai believes that many opportunities will open up for exchanges between the two countries.

Malaysia wants to receive more Vietnamese students pursuing postgraduate programs. According to the Malaysian Ambassador, many alumni have been making positive contributions to the two countries' relations.

VUFO President Nguyen Phuong Nga congratulated Ambassador Tan Yang Thai on his new position in Vietnam. She wished the Ambassador a successful term, contributing to strengthening the traditional friendship between Vietnam and Malaysia.

VUFO President Nguyen Phuong Nga said Vietnamese leaders and people have good sentiments for the Malaysian people and attach great importance to developing relations with traditional friends in the ASEAN region. VUFO and the Vietnam - Malaysia Friendship Association are willing to coordinate with the Embassy of Malaysia to Vietnam to organize activities to strengthen the solidarity, friendship, and cooperation between the Vietnamese and Malaysian people.

In 2023, Vietnam and Malaysia will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, an important event for both countries. VUFO and the Vietnam - Malaysia Friendship Association look forward to working closely with the Embassy to hold commemoration activities.
