Promoting Viet Nam-Australia Healthcare Cooperation through People-to-People Ties

On June 23 in Hanoi, President of the Viet Nam-Australia Friendship Association Tran Van Nhung received Professor Jane Fisher from Monash University (Australia) to discuss potential cooperation in the healthcare sector.

During the meeting, President Tran Van Nhung highly appreciated Professor Jane Fisher’s contributions to research programs and capacity-building in the field of maternal and child health in Viet Nam.

He also proposed strengthening the Association’s connection with the network of Vietnamese alumni who studied in Australia to leverage this expert resource. He emphasized that this group could make significant contributions to medical human resource training, particularly in family medicine, a field in which Australia has considerable expertise.

At the same event, Vice President of the Association Nguyen Ngoc Hung expressed hope that Professor Fisher and her colleagues in Australia would continue to support Viet Nam in training healthcare professionals, conducting applied research, and transferring knowledge.

In response, Professor Jane Fisher reaffirmed her willingness to promote and enhance cooperative activities with the Viet Nam-Australia Friendship Association. She noted that many Vietnamese medical students currently studying at Monash University are eager to contribute to the development of Viet Nam’s healthcare system through research and practical initiatives.

Professor Fisher also shared that her research team is developing digital applications to support parents in caring for and educating young children. She expressed a desire to collaborate with Vietnamese partners to scale up these initiatives.

Both sides agreed that digital transformation in healthcare, particularly at the grassroots level, represents a promising direction for cooperation.

Professor Jane Fisher is a global health expert currently serving as Head of Social Sciences in Public Health and Preventive Medicine at Monash University (Australia). She is also a clinical psychologist and technical advisor to various international organizations in maternal and child health. Since the 1990s, she has collaborated with Vietnamese colleagues on research in this field.
