The 4th Congress of the Vietnam-Ukraine Friendship Association

The Vietnam-Ukraine Friendship Association (VUFA) held its 4th National Congress in Hanoi on September 27.

 


Present in the meeting were Mrs. Nguyen Thi Hoang Van, Vice-Chairman of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations (VUFO), Mr. Nguyen Van Quyen, Chairman of the Vietnam Lawyers Association and VUFA Chairman, Mr. Dang Van Chien, Assistant to the Chairman of the National Assembly and representatives from ministries, Vietnam’s friendship associations with the Commonwealth of Independent States and VUFA.  H.E Oleksiy Shovkopplias, the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Ukraine to Vietnam, also attended the event.

VUFA Chairman Nguyen Van Quyen delivered a report on activities during the 2007-2014 tenure focusing on boosting friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and Ukraine in various fields such as trade and investment, culture, tourism, education and training, in line with directions of the Communist Party and the State.

The report also drew up VUFA’s action plan for the 2014-2019 period, aiming at maintaining and consolidating the traditional friendship and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Ukraine, creating favourable conditions for bilateral exchanges, economic cooperation, trade, science, education and business expansion.

The congress has elected a new VUFA executive board for the 2014-2019 tenure, consisting of 33 members. Mr. Dang Van Chien, Assistant to the National Assembly’s Chairman has been voted as VUFA Chairman.

Addressing the congress, Mrs. Nguyen Thi Hoang Van appraised VUFA’s contribution to the development of solidarity, friendship and cooperation between the peoples of Vietnam and Ukraine. Mrs Van suggested that the association should expand the chapter network and partners in Vietnam and Ukraine, diversify activities to bridge the people-to-people cooperation.

Ambassador Oleksiy Shovkopplias extended warm congratulations to the Congress and highly emphasized VUFA’s contribution to the broader relations between Vietnam and Ukraine.

In the framework of the 4th congress, VUFA six medals “For Peace and Friendship between Peoples” were awarded to VUFA members who have brought positive contributions to Vietnam-Ukraine’s friendship activities.
