Guaranteeing social security for the people, especially women and girls is the thorough and consistent goal of Vietnam

At the policy dialogue themed “Increasing inclusion of women and girls in the social protection system: A development priority” jointly held in Hanoi on March 31, 2014 by the MoLWS and the UN Gender Equality and Empowerment of Women or UN Women in short, Minister Pham Thi Hai Chuyen said that organizing well the social security system is of important significance in guaranteeing sosicla stability, boost growth and build a civilized society. Guaranteeing social security for the people, especially women and girls is the thorough and consistent goal of Vietnam in recent time.

A lot of important policies on gender equality have been issued and deployed in order to build the legal framework and favorable environment for the implementation of gender euqality7 and social security.

As Minister Pham Thi Hai Chuyen viewed it, in the context that Vietnam’s economy is facing the declining economic growth, the impact of the ever more complicated climate change together with the gender streamlining which is yet to be sufficient and effective in the policies on social security, is the challenge to social security for women and girls.

Social security plays the key role when the governments have carried out 8 Millennium Development Goals, including the boost of gender equality and empowerment of women.

However, about 5.1 billion people, equivalent to 75% of the world’s population are yet to be able to participate and benefit social security in a sufficient manner.

Ms Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka said that an effective social security system can create the strength to change the world, build a better, more powerful and prosperous country not only for women and girls, but for all of us as well.

UN Women has coordinated with the Vietnamese Government in a lot of action programs with a view to enhancing gender equality and raising community awareness, guaranteeing women’s rights in Vietnam and committing to continuing to support the efforts of the Vietnamese Government in enhancing social security and social equality./.
