Viet Nam, RoK strengthen cooperation in public sector human resources

A delegation from Viet Nam's Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA), led by Minister Pham Thi Thanh Tra, on July 17 had working sessions with the National Human Resources Development Institute (NHI) and the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) in the Republic of Korea (RoK), with discussions focusing on personnel training and development in the public sector as well as smart city management.

At the meeting with NHI President Kim Chae-Hwan, Tra stressed that amid their growing diplomatic and cultural relations and people-to-people exchanges between Viet Nam and the RoK, the visit presents a crucial opportunity for both nations to cooperate in human resources development in the public sector.

She expressed her gratitude to the Korean Ministry of Personnel Management and NHI for their long-standing support to the MoHA’s National Academy of Public Administration (NAPA), and proposed that NHI share with Viet Nam its experiences in public sector human resources development, public-private cooperation for human resources integration, the training of leaders and talents, and the implementation of international cooperation and support initiatives.

For his part, Kim expressed hopes that in the future, NHI and the MoHA, specifically NAPA, will continue to enhance joint work in training and developing officials, civil servants, and researchers in the areas of mutual concerns.

Visiting KAIST on the same day, the Vietnamese delegation aimed to explore the institute’s training model, which has contributed to the RoK’s transformation from a producer of light industrial goods to a leading country in high-tech industries worldwide.

On July 16, the Vietnamese officials worked with the Korean Ministry of Personnel Management and the Seoul Metropolitan Government on issues related to smart cities. Park Jin Young, director of Seoul’s digital city bureau, said he is looking forward to cooperating with Vietnamese partners in smart city initiatives./.
