On November 7, the Vietnam – Cambodia Friendship Association (VCFA) held a seminar entitled “The Vietnam – Cambodia Friendship Association - 40 years of lessons and experiences”.

Present at the seminar were Mr. Vu Xuan Hong, President of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations (VUFO); Mr. Vu Mao, VCFA Chairman; leaders and members of VCFA; former Vietnam volunteer veterans and experts in Cambodia.

Mrs. Phen Savny, Minister Counselor of Cambodia’s Embassy to Vietnam, also attended the seminar along with Cambodian diplomats and students in Vietnam.

The seminar is a practical activity to commemorate the 61st   National Day of Kingdom of Cambodia (November 9, 1953 – November 9, 2014); the 40th anniversary of establishment of VCFA (January 22, 1975 – January 22, 2015) and the 4th national congress of VCFA, Mr. Mao told the delegates.

Its objective is to review VCFA’s achievements from activities in the last 40 years. Speakers from VCFA in Hanoi and branches in cities and provinces shared many experiences in conducting friendship activities and creating initiatives to consolidate Vietnam – Cambodia solidarity. The seminar’s organizers said various suggestions and recommendations should be submitted to relevant government authorities for further promoting the traditional bond of friendship and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries.

Speaking at the seminar, Mrs. Phen Savny thanked the Communist Party, the State and people of Vietnam for helping the Cambodian people escape the Khmer Rouge regime in the past as well as for providing practical assistance to the cause of the country’s reconstruction.

“Vietnam and Cambodia, the two neighboring fraternal countries, have been shoulder to shoulder in the struggle against their common enemies and shared the Mekong River,” she said. “The government and people of Cambodia will do their best to consolidate and strengthen friendly relations with Vietnam for the development and prosperity of the two countries.”

The Minister Counselor praised achievements obtained by VCFA in the last 40 years. The association has actively assisted and facilitated Cambodia in training and developing human resources by providing scholarship and assistance for Cambodian students.

Activities of people-to-people exchange, sponsoring Cambodian students, social charity, enhancing economic and trade cooperation conducted by VCFA have been significantly contributing to the consolidation and development of solidarity between the two countries’ peoples.
