Vietnam-Thailand: People-to-people Exchanges Strengthens Trade Cooperation

Continuing the visit in Vietnam, the delegation of Thailand-Vietnam Friendship Association recently had working session with representatives from the entrepreneur communities in Vietnam. The parties exchanged information and explored opportunities for cooperation in supporting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), young businesses, and start-ups of the two countries

The guest delegation of the Thailand-Vietnam Friendship Association was led by its President, Sanan Angubolkul (President of the Thai Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Vietnam). The hosts of the meeting were Honorary President of the Vietnam National Entrepreneurship Association Vu Tien Loc, President of the Vietnam Young Business Association Tran Dang Nam and President of the Vietnam Digital Communications Association Nguyen Minh Hong.

Honorary President of the Vietnam National Entrepreneurship Association Vu Tien Loc stressed that the current number of businesses in Vietnam is about 800,000 businesses/100 million people, which is an opportunity for foreign investors and businesses to establish and grow in Vietnam. Notably, the Vietnamese government has issued many policies to support entrepreneurs and encourage people to start businesses.

The Vietnam National Entrepreneurship Association is currently implementing six fundamental pillars to create a national start-up ecosystem, including incubation, training, consulting, commerce, and dialogue. It wants to learn more experiences of countries around the world, including Thailand about activities to promote the entrepreneurial spirit, such as the annual start-up summit; teaching and sharing experiences with local authorities, with the participation of international experts. Vietnamese start-ups also need to know more on how to build local start-up ecosystems and how to create sustainable businesses.

President of the Vietnam Young Business Association Tran Dang Nam added that among its members are in many key industries such as trade and services, construction, and manufacturing, yet there is only 10% of which are in the technology sector. This sector holds great potential for collaboration with Thai businesses because of the fast-paced development, young and active human resources.

At the meeting, the parties emphasized that people-to-people diplomacy plays a big role in strengthening cooperation in economic and trade development (Photo: VNT).

President of the Vietnam Digital Communications Association Nguyen Minh Hong emphasized the focuses on researching and advocating for policy development on information and communication technology in Vietnam, which creates favorable conditions for international cooperation.. Hong also said that the Vietnam Digital Communications Association wants to boost cooperative relationships with the Asia Internet Coalition, the Asia Open Data Partnership, business associations of Japan, Korea, Singapore, and Big Tech like Facebook, TikTok, and Amazon.

The Vietnamese side asked the Thailand-Vietnam Friendship Association to be the connection to the young business community, and start-ups in Thailand, especially businesses in the field of the digital economy and digital transformation., to showcase and connect Vietnamese and Thai businesses in different fields.

Multifaced cooperation in progress

President of Thailand-Vietnam Friendship Association Sanan Angubolkul agreed with the hosts that connecting and exchanging between Thai and Vietnamese people is one of the fundamental foundations for building diplomatic relations between the two countries.

For example, the Thailand-Vietnam Friendship Association provides scholarships for Vietnamese students to study in Thailand, organizes student exchange activities, and organizes the Thailand-Vietnam Business Forum. To deepen the mutual understanding through people-to-people exchange is to promote Vietnam-Thailand cooperation in many other fields, said Sanan Angubolkul.

He hoped that by the Thailand-Vietnam Business Forum in June this year, there will be specific cooperation programs between the Thailand - Vietnam Friendship Association and the hosts. The parties agreed that it is an opportunity for businesses of the two countries to meet, exchange information, and discuss future cooperation.
