Incumbent and former leaders of the National Assembly of Vietnam receive the Cuban distinctions at the awards ceremony in Hanoi on September 27.

On behalf of the Cuban Party and State, President of the National Assembly of People’s Power of Cuba Esteban Lazo Hernandez presented the National Order of Merit Carlos Manuel de Cesesspespeedes to incumbent chairman of the National Assembly of Vietnam Vuong Dinh Hue; the Order Anna Betancourt to former chairwoman of the National Assembly Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan; and the Order of Solidarity to incumbent vice chairman of the National Assembly Tran Thanh Man, and former vice chairman of the National Assembly Tong Thi Phong.

The Cuban leader also bestowed the Cuban Friendship Medal to vice chairman of the National Assembly Tran Quang Phuong, general secretary of the National Assembly and chairman of the National Assembly Office Bui Van Cuong, and chairman of the National Assembly’s Foreign Affairs Committee and chairman of the Vietnam - Cuba Parliamentary Friendship Group Vu Hai Ha.

Carlos Manuel de Céspedes del Castillo was a Cuban revolutionary hero and first President of Cuba in Arms in 1868. The Order named after him is awarded to national or foreign persons for diplomats or consular merits, special missions and outstanding services rendered to Cuba and humanity.

Ana Betancourt was a Cuban heroine woman who took a leading role in the war of independence from Spain. The Order named after her is presented to Cuban women who, inside and outside Cuba, stood out for their exceptional efforts in revolutionary and political struggle, scientific work, artistic creation, industrial success and efforts to achieve a just peace for the peoples.

National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue, on behalf of the award recipients, respectfully thanked the Cuban Party and State, saying the awarding is the honour for the National Assembly, people and generations of leaders of the legislature who have worked hard to cultivate and contribute to tightening the exemplary brotherhood, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation, and faithful solidarity between the two Parties, States and peoples over the past more than six decades.

He affirmed the steadfast solidarity of the Party, State and people of Vietnam towards the just revolutionary cause of the Cuban people.

The National Assembly and people of Vietnam are determined to join the National Assembly and people of Cuba in constantly making efforts to cultivate their close bond for younger generations of the two countries, he stressed.

The parliamentary chairman said he firmly believes that the Cuban people, under leadership of the Communist Party of Cuba, will overcome all difficulties and challenges, and reap many new and greater victories on the chosen path.
