In his remarks, Vice President of the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organizations (VUFO) Nguyen Ngoc Hung emphasized the historical significance of the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025). This is a reminder of the Vietnamese people's resilient struggle history and a tribute to the valuable support from international friends. Reviewing Viet Nam's outstanding achievements since the Doi Moi, he stated that Viet Nam continues to solidify its reputation as a reliable and responsible member of the international community.

According to VUFO Vice President, maintaining peace is a common responsibility of humanity - one that requires solidarity, listening and action from all countries. Viet Nam has been actively contributing to nuclear disarmament, accompanying the Hibakusha (atomic bomb survivors) towards a nuclear-free world.
Through people-to-people exchange, cultural activities, dialogues, and initiatives such as signature collection in response to the Hibakusha Call, VUFO strives to connect communities, inspire, and foster understanding. VUFO has coordinated with partners in Japan, such as Nihon Hidankyo, Japan Council against Atomic and Hydrogen Bombs (Gensuikyo), and Japan-Viet Nam Friendship Association in addressing the consequences of war, raising awareness of the value of peace and the importance of international solidarity in building peace.
Under the theme “Time for Peace: Writing the Next Chapter,” the event serves as a meaningful platform to reflect on the lessons of history, embrace its enduring values, and chart a path toward a more peaceful future. It stands as a commitment to unity—fostering friendships, deepening understanding, and working together to uphold lasting peace.

Yoshioka Tatsuya, Co-founder and Director of Peace Boat, expressed his joy at visiting Viet Nam on the historic occasion of the country’s 50th anniversary of reunification. He shared his deep admiration for Viet Nam’s enduring struggle for national independence and praised the resilience and diligence of the Vietnamese people.
Reflecting on the shared history of Viet Nam and Japan, Yoshioka emphasized that both nations have endured the devastation of war and understand the consequences it leaves behind. When Viet Nam fought for independence, Japan suffered the tragedy of a nuclear disaster. The exchange "Time for peace: Writing the next chapter" holds immense significance, offering an opportunity for both sides to unite in dialogue and work toward a lasting peace and a nuclear-free future.
Since Peace Boat’s first visit to Viet Nam in 1985, the country has remained a beloved destination for the organization’s voyages. Looking ahead, Yoshioka expressed his hope to deepen collaboration and continue fostering friendship visits to Viet Nam.

At the event, the VUFO Youth Union delivered an insightful presentation about Viet Nam. The presentation highlighted key milestones in the nation's struggle for independence and its journey of renewal, development, and international integration. It also provided an overview of Viet Nam's foreign policy, emphasizing principles of independence, self-reliance, peace, cooperation, and development, along with the "four no's" defense policy. VUFO Youth Union members presented traditional costumes and introduced local culinary specialties, offering Peace Boat delegates a vivid and immersive experience of Viet Nam’s rich heritage. The presentation was met with enthusiastic responses from international attendees.

As part of the program, an exchange session called “Time for peace: Writing the next chapter” took place. Ambassador Nguyen Phuong Nga, former VUFO President, former Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Viet Nam; Kuramori Terumi, Nagasaki bombing survivor, representative of Nihon Hidankyo; Kawasaki Akira, ICAN President; Lee Jae Young, NARPI Executive Director, joined the session.
The speakers shared diverse perspectives on peace, along with valuable lessons learned from their experience. They emphasized the role of global understanding and cooperation and sent a message of international solidarity. They called on the younger generation to continue their efforts to maintain sustainable peace.
According to the speakers, exchanges, discussions, and enhancement of mutual understanding are substantive activities to promote peace education. Young people need to listen to stories from those who have experienced the pain of war, and actively spread messages of peace.
