Music brings Finnish winter to Hanoi

The music exchange programme themed "Winter in the North" was recently held by the Embassy of Finland in Vietnam, the Vietnam-Finland Friendship Association and the Hanoi College of Arts.

Member of Central Party, Deputy Secretary of Hanoi Party Committee, Ngo Thi Thanh Hang; Deputy Chief of Ha Noi City Party Committee, Tran Anh Tuan, Deputy Director of Department of Foreign Affairs of Hanoi, Nguyen Hai Nam; Rector of Hanoi College of Art, Duong Minh Anh; Professor Jarmo Anttila, Director of Seinajoki City Symphony Orchestra (Finland) attended the event.

Speaking at the opening address, Rector of the Hanoi College of Art, Duong Minh Anh said that this show reflects the shared characteristic of folk music of Finland and Vietnam, the two different cultures from two faraway countries. Anh also took the occasion to thank the Hanoi city authorities for facilitating the exchange of music with Finnish artists.

Đoàn Minh Tuấn, deputy chairman of the Vietnam-Finland Friendship Association, for his part, said the music exchange program was held on the occasion of three significant events: Finnish National Day (December 6); the 45th anniversary of Vietnam - Finland diplomatic relations establishment (1973-2018) and 10th anniversary of Hanoi - Southern Ostrobonia friendship.

"This is an opportunity for the two sides to look back on joint achievements in the past, the traditional friendship and current multi-faceted cooperation," said Doan Minh Tuan.

In the cold spell of early winter in Hanoi, the audience was immersed in marvellous melody of Vietnamese and Finnish folk music performed by artists, lecturers to from the Hanoi College of Art and the Northern Pohjanmaa Orchestra from Finland. 

As part of 'Winter in the North", the Vietnam-Finland Friendship Association also collaborated with the Hanoi College of Art to exhibit a number of paintings, photographs bringing the country and people of Finland closer to the Hanoians./.
