Vietnam - US Need to Continue Cooperation in Settling War Legacy

Over the years, the Vietnamese and US governments and people have made significant efforts to overcome the consequences of war and have achieved positive results. However, there is a need to put out more projects and programs to further promote cooperation between the two countries in the fields of mine clearance and support for victims of Agent Orange.

The statement was delivered by Phan Anh Son, President of the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organizations, at the reception for the "Veterans for Peace" (VFP) delegation led by Chuck Searcy, held in Hanoi on October 16.

According to VUFO President Phan Anh Son, over 100 American non-governmental organizations are currently operating in Vietnam in many fields such as public health care, livelihood, and overcoming the consequences of war. However, unexploded ordnance is still a big issue in Vietnam, especially in the Central and South Central regions. Along with that, more than 3,000 people are suffering from Agent Orange.

Phan Anh Son recognized VFP's contribution to settling war legacies in Vietnam. The Government of Vietnam and VUFO highly appreciate the Vietnam-US people-to-people relations and consider this an important foundation for the two countries to further cooperate, especially in handling the consequences of war.
