Attending were Mr. Vu Xuan Hong, President of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations (VUFO); Mr. Nguyen Huu Loi, Executive Deputy Secretary of the Can Tho Party Committee; Mr. Le Hung Dung, Executive Vice Chairman of the Can Tho People's Committee; representatives from other Unions and departments of the Can Tho People's Committee.
The Convention’s theme was Unity, innovation, friendship, and cooperation for sustainable development of Can Tho City”.
The Union’s summary report of the 2008-2013 tenure and the orientations for the 2013 – 2018 tenure were approved. In the 2013 – 2018 tenure, CUFO would continue to maintain and further strengthen various activities in the fields of peace, friendship and cooperation.
The Convention elected a 35 - member Executive Board, and Mrs. Vo Thi Thanh Nga was re-elected CUFO’s Chairman for the next tenure.
On behalf of the VUFO’s leaders, Mr. Vu Xuan Hong presented a laudatory writing “The Can Tho Union of Friendship Organizations with excellent achievements in people-to-people diplomacy”, medal “For Peace and Friendship Among Nations” to 8 outstanding individuals in recognition of their contributions to people-to-people diplomacy.
Mr. Nguyen Huu Loi believed that with the interest of the Can Tho Party Committee, Can Tho People's Council, Can Tho People's Committee, VUFO and along with the efforts of CUFO Executive Board’s members, CUFO would continue to fulfill the assigned tasks; and the Can Tho people-to-people diplomacy will grow continuously, contributing to the development of the City./.
