(Vietpeace) On July 24th, 2013, a discussion titled “For a peaceful world, no nuclear and chemical weapons” was jointly held by the Da Nang Union of Friendship Organizations (DAFO), the Da nang Vietnam – Japan Friendship Association, the Peace Boat and the Da nang Youth Union at the Labour Cultural House.

In her openning speech, Mrs. Le Thi Nhu Hong, DAFO’s Vice President, emphasized that the discussion was a great opportunity for activists of Da Nang City and Japan,  Agent Orange victims, and agencies fighting for peace and justice of Agent Orange victims to get together. It would contribute to enhance the sense of responsibility of the City youth in having actions together for the sake of the Agent Orange victims, the Vietnam- Japan friendship and the peace of mankind, she added.

On behalf of the Peace Boat’s Executive Board Committee, Mr. Kawasaki spoke of the dire consequences caused by nuclear and chemical weapons. He called on everyone to build together “a world of peace, no nuclear and chemical weapons”.

Japanese victims of atomic bombs of Japan and Agent Orange victims of Danang City shared their traumatic experiences they had suffered. With courage and strong belief in life, they have overcome their destinies, lived, hoped and taken actions for a peaceful world. And they have transmitted their strength and sent messages to the City youth.

Mr. Tran Vu Duy Man, President of the City Youth Union, received the message Da Nang youth join hands to ease pain of war - for a world of peace, no nuclear and chemical weapons” sent by the discussion to the City youth with the hope that the City youth would have the practical contributions in the coming time.

The Peace Boat invited 8 young people, who are Agent Orange victims of  Da Nang City, on board to Singapore to carry the message to international friends. The Peace Boat, operating since 1983, is a Japan-based international non-governmental and non-profit organization that works to promote peace and sustainable development  by organizing peaceful voyages. This was the 35th time to dock at Da Nang Port in her 80th global voyage./.
