Operation Smile giving children the chance to smile

In August, the non-Governmental Organization Operation Smile Vietnam continue bringing smiles to the face of those children born with facial deformities in Hai Phong.

The program co-operates Operation Smile Vietnam and Hai Phong Medical Hospital University, sponsored by SIKA VIETNAM and The National Fund For Vietnamese Children supporting for connection with patients.

According to Operation Smile Viet Nam: Cleft lips and cleft palate are one of the most common malformations for infants in Viet Nam with a 1: 700 birth defect rate. They  affects not only appearance, but also the physical and psychological children’s development. Having operated in Viet Nam since 1989, during the past 27 years, Operation Smile Vietnam has healed over 38,000 cleft children and provided countless training for our medical volunteers across the country. However, with the number of 3,000 children born with congenital malformations every year, there are still many children who have no access to free medical services.

In August, Operation Smile has announced the Humane Surgery program for children with cleft lip and cleft palate in Hai Phong.

Accordingly, patients include: children with cleft lips surgery for the first time must be 6 months old and 8 kilos and above, children with cleft palate surgery for the first time must be 15 months old and 10 kilos and above. Other congenital malformations have no age restriction.

Operation Smile Vietnam will organize medical examination and treatment at Hai Phong Medical Hospital University - 225C Lach Tray, Ngo Quyen District, Hai Phong.

The number of patients examined and treated is expected to be 100 - 120 patients. The program is conducted by a team of medical professionals from hospitals in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Thua Thien Hue.
